In 2018, the global political and economic landscape was deeply affected by a rising wave of protectionism. Slowing down globalization and escalating trade conflicts all over the world have led to extreme upheavals in global markets resembling the climate change. In the face of this volatile business environment, C.S. Aluminium Corporation still achieved numerous brilliant results by relying on the joint efforts of all staff members. Our sales and production volume exceeded 200,000 metric tons, which represents a record high. The rate of qualified products has been raised by 4% and the overall cost savings reached NT$ 365 million.
C.S. Aluminium Corporation embraces the core values and spirit of China Steel Group and is firmly committed to the development of green materials, green energy sources, and green processes. In response to recent trends in the new energy vehicle industry, C. S. Aluminium Corporation has successfully developed high-performance aluminum sheets for cars and scooters and lithium-ion battery aluminum foil. The aluminum sheets for cars have already passed the GM, FCA certifications. Besides, shipbuilding plates have been successfully developed and are already being delivered in line with the domestic shipbuilding policy of the government. C. S. Aluminium Corporation also participates in the Reclaimed Water Reuse Project of Fengshan Wastewater Treatment Plant in the context of its green energy policy. Water supply was officially initiated in August 2018. The solar power system which was installed on the factory premises generated a total of 9.32 GWh. C.S. Aluminium Corporation also continues to purchase aluminum raw materials produced by hydropower. Energy conservation and environmental protection activities are constantly organized by the Energy Management Committee and the Occupational Safety and Health and Environmental Management Committee to realize the goal of green processes. In 2018, outstanding results were achieved in the field of environmental protection. The power savings rate of 1.49% exceeds the legally prescribed savings of 1%. Energy consumption by the aluminum division has been decreased by 12%, while air pollutant emissions were reduced by 145 metric tons.
Circular economy concepts represent a major trend in the field of sustainable development and are actively promoted by the government. C.S. Aluminium Corporation has incorporated these concepts into its business development policies. C.S. Aluminium Corporation collects and recycles solid waste and wastewater generated in its manufacturing processes in an adequate manner. It also applies these concepts to its whole supply chain through the expanded use of recycled aluminum and zinc materials, reclaimed water, and process by-products of China Steel (steam, nitrogen, and argon). Solar power panels have been installed on the roofs of the factory’s buildings. Our efforts have been recognized by the Environmental Protection Administration of the Executive Yuan and we have been selected as a Two-Star Manufacturer in the first Circular Economy Evaluation.
Our actual experiences prove convincingly that the circular economy is a feasible eco-friendly method that benefits others and ourselves. In the future, we will continue to implement and internalize these concepts through our business strategies.
